Immigration from outside the United States resulted in a net increase of 228,415 people, and migration within the country produced a net increase of 378,258 people. More than 80 percent of the state's 9 million population lives in the Atlanta metro area. Three of Georgia counties were among the 10 fastest growing counties from 2004 to 2005.
