In 2007, Georgia had an estimated population of 9,544,750 which was an increase of 180,809 from the previous year, and an increase of 1,177,125 since 2000. Immigration from outside the United States resulted in a net increase of 228,415 people, and migration within the country produced a net increase of 378,258 people.

More than 80 percent of the state's 9 million population lives in the Atlanta metro area. Three of Georgia counties were among the 10 fastest growing counties from 2004 to 2005.
